Ha escrito Ud. una obra excelente,donde la evocación,más allegada'a la gracia que a la solemnidad,nunca es opresiva o pesada.Una gran agilidad,una magnífica fluencia cuyo impulso generatriz nunca es perceptible (por fortuna) definen el contenido y la forma de sus tiernas y logradas páginas. Ud. especula delicadamente con el tiempo,incansable y profundo manantial de poesía.De nobles caducidades se prestigian los libros proyectados hacia el pasado.El sentimiento de lo irrecuperable puebla nuestra intimidad de tenaces fantasmas y,al inquietarnos con esas presencias que tenemos y al mismo tiempo no tenemos,nos mueve a expresar en términos de arte tan dramática oscilación. Claro está que dicha "materia" debe encontrar su forma,su estilo,para alcanzar el nivel artístico.En su libro coexisten la rica temática y los medios adecua dos,felices. Ud. sabe recordar,vale decir,sabe internarse en el misterio crónico, eje de toda creación literaria de alta dignidad y de profundos ecos.Le interesa el simpático Colling,entre otras cosas,porque,al rescatarlo en el tiempo,con gran intensidad tiende a rescatarse x Ud. mismo .Yo vivo el mismo anhelo,y por eso me detuve en esta frase de su libro: "Algunas noches -muchos años despuéstuve el capricho de querer recordar exactamente,dónde y cómo estaba colocado,có mo lo vi por primera vez y qué me dijo al principio." La infancia es una de las"constantes" literarias de nuestro tiempo.Desde Rousseau hasta Proust,y también después (pienso en A. Fournier y en nuestra Norah Lange),el pasado personal ha demostrado tener mucho porvenir.El tema es esencialmente romántico,pero también inagotable,como todo lo que aspira a lo particular.Sobre "los tiempos de Clemente Colling" no gravita ningún énfasis, ningún entusiasmo ramplón.Ese libro me dice que hay en Ud. un observa^or agudo y penetrante,a quién no interesan los hechos en tanto que realidades cerradas: J �le atrae el nimbo que las envuelve ^-y contribuye a darles un aire remoto. No sólo están despo jados^<$eD.^do romanticismo fácil esas páginas,sino que, además,traslucen una(s^Ü$es ironía,un "buen humor siempre afectuoso y aprobatorio del mundo. x ^'. .. ' Recuerdo con vivo agrado muchos momentos de su libro.Ahora sólo hago memoria del niño que Mse veía escondido11 ante los ojos del ciego -observación < ? digna de Chesterton y explotable en el mejor sentido- y no quiero olvidar "esa tristeza que dan algunos juguetes ajenos....cuando uno siente que no son lin dos y que el^otro los ama mucho.^ Pero lo que importa en su libro,aparte de su tono evocativo y poético,es el carácter,la arquitectura psíquica del protagonista,a la vez arbitrario,pinto resco t conmovedor.Ud.,seguro captador de realidades inmediatas,le ha dado, a la vez,contornos de verdad y d.e fábula,tamaño natural y tamaño mitológico. No trae dicha afirmar que el placer estático se apoya en los variables gustos y las fugaces convenciones: todo quedaría sujeto al mecanismo psíquico del lector.La admisión de esa hipótesis no me impide creer que su libro puede ser leído con deleite en cualquier apoca.
