Reconocida escritora por sus poesías, ensayos, críticas literarias y conferencias, fue también doctora en medicina y profesora de literatura. Al casarse adopta el apellido de su esposo, el Dr. Alfredo Cáceres. Estudio en la Universidad de Mujeres de Montevideo, siendo alumna de María Eugenia Vaz a quien admiraba, siendo una fuerte influencia para ella. Trabajo como médica inspectora del Asilo Dámaso Larrañaga, Hospital Maciel y en la Intendencia de Montevideo.Participó en tertulias de la época con Paco Espínola, Adolfo Pastor, Carmelo de Arzadun, Amalia nieto y Felisberto Hernández, entre otros. En su círculo de amigos contó con personalidades como Rafael Dieste, Carlos Vaz Ferreira, Jules Supervielle, Susana Soca, Juan Parra del Riego, Giselda Zani, Enrique Casaravilla Lemos y Joaquín Torres García. Tuvo gran amistad con Juana de Ibarbourou. Ocupó la Cátedra de Estética y Composición Literaria en la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias. Fue profesora de Literatura en Secundaria y en el Instituto Normal. Fue agregada cultural de la Embajada de Uruguay en Washington e integró la Academia Nacional de Letras. Fallece el 3 de febrero de 1971 en Galicia, España.
